Antique Blocks

Mom, what a find, from a garage sale. Looking to do something with these beauties. I think there are 10 or 12. Will have to double check on how many I have. Fairly nice size.
A design wall for sure to see which way I might like them to be.
She also found 2 Double Wedding Ring tops. Pay dirt!

Free Form Applique'

Playing around with some free form applique'. The saw tooth border is made from a single folded strip and the corners are 1/2 square triangles.. So nice to work that way. Not sure how I will quilt this. Left over fabrics from another project.

Another piece of the quilt almost done. So anxious to get this applique finished so I can start working on the "other parts".

Flying Geese

Decided I needed to get going on the flying geese for my nephew's quilt. Once I figured out how many I needed to set them vertical it was pretty easy to cut multiple triangles using my book's method and start stitching away. I sure wish my house was finished so I could put this up on the design wall. I may just have to go in there and tape some flannel up. That might help me get a feel for what I am trying to create.

Island FUN

Found these pictures and wanted to share. If you desire to attend a wonderful retreat, Madeline Island School of the Arts is a beautiful venue. Looking forward to attending next year again. Here is a sunset captured just before entering the Pub for dinner. The classroom is full of eager students "stuff"!

Plantings

Spent a good time planting 110 Allium bulbs. Now if the Garden God's can make sure they come up next year that will be a plus. A beautiful fall day with sun and leaves trickling down. The color on our little piece of paradise is just gorgeous.

Inserts

While at MISA we played around with some new techniques. I was enthralled with the inserts and want to explore more of this in the future. So many possibilities. I just grabbed colors for contrast and practice. This was shared by Rene' one of the students. Thanks a million.

9 Patch Solids

Slowly working on the 9 patches. Now to add the corners and borders. Looking at this piece from far away you can see the light gray creating an unusual center, but not up close. Interesting........

Younger days

As we wait in anticipation to move into our new home my husband came across an old picture from his college days at Ferris. While taking it out of the frame to clean it a surprise was in store. Three team pictures of his baseball days as 2nd baseman were tucked behind it. He is located in the front right hand corner with glove in hand. 12 years old here. I had never seen these pictures before so it was a real treat. So glad they were preserved.

Small space

Working in a small space is a challenge. With a purchase of 2 1/2" strips I managed to make 9 patch blocks that I plan on placing on point. We shall see how it turns out.

MISA

Just returned from Madeline Island School of the Arts. A wonderful venue to host 42 quilters from all walks of life. At least 4-5 additional teachers among the two headliners: Gwen Marston and Pam Beal. Subject: Small Studies in Solids. A delightful group of like minded people. Sharing, discussion, and creating personalized pieces anyone could imagine. Hard work paid off. These little "studies" are much harder than one thinks. Working with small pieces challenges the creative aspect going forward. Progression and fortitude carried us through and many pieces were appreciated by all. Pam and Gwen were great in providing the environment for thoughtful processes and were a compliment to each other. Thank you ladies for a great time and helping get the juices flowing again. Two pieces of my work.
